Message from Organizing Secretary

Management of spinal ailments has been revolutionized in the last few decades. We can understand and hence manage these ailments much better. However the long list of unanswered questions and controversies suggests that a lot of work still needs to be done. Thus a lot of research is being done across the globe resulting in the management of spinal ailments and there is a need for a comprehensive resource addressing management of spinal cord injury (SCI) as a team-based approach. It is with this in mind that the “Spinal Cord Society” organizes “International Spine and Spinal Injuries Conference” (ISSICON) each year. This year Spinal Cord Society is proud to announce the theme for the conference as “Complex Spine Trauma” and the Indian launch of the “ISCoS Textbook on Comprehensive Management of Spinal Cord Injuries”.

Deliberations amongst eminent faculty members from around the globe and from around India provides an excellent forum for trying to achieve these objectives. The conference helps not only to sensitise the medical and paramedical professionals but also like policy makers and community on the need for setting up services for Spinal Cord Injured.

The International Spinal Cord Society (ISCoS) in collaboration with affiliated societies like Spinal Cord Society has compiled the ISCoS Textbook on Comprehensive Management of Spinal Cord Injuries. The book was launched Internationally on 14th May 2017 at Montreal, Canada at the joint ASIA and ISCoS conference. The Indian launch of the textbook is being proposed at the 15th ISSICON conference at New Delhi. The Editorial Board comprising 25 members was constituted with experts from across the globe representing different health professionals involved in SCI management as well as the consumer group. The textbook is a comprehensive guide containing information for all disciplines involved in SCI management including doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, etc. There are 82 chapters in the textbook grouped into 10 different sections. It represents the incessant desire of ISCoS to bridge the gap in professional development opportunities for health professionals involved in SCI management.

This year ISSICON is being organized in New Delhi by Indian Spinal Injuries Centre & Spinal Cord Society. We welcome you all to ISSICON 2017 and hope that we will be able to live up to your expectations.

With regards,
Dr. H.S. Chhabra,
